Linux mv command

If you would like to move a file from one location to another on your Linux Dedicated Server or VPS system you can use the Linux mv command. It is a very handy command that most of the sysadmins use daily.

Move a file from one location to another using Linux mv command

mv /path/to/file /new/path/to/file

Move several files into a directory

mv -t directory fileToMove1 fileToMove2

Renaming a file with mv

Moving a file in the same directory with a different name will simply rename it

mv oldFileName newFileName
